The origin of the name Joshua is Hebrew

The  biblical meaning of the name Joshua is Jehovah is salvation.

 

Joshua was the successor to Moses as the leader of Israel

 

The name Joshua appears in the bible in the following verses:

And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
